British designer Paul Cocksedge has created quite a few interesting pieces over the years for a number of high profile clients like BMW, Hermes, Sony and the like. But it’s the work the eponymous studio does with the London Design Festival every year that always intrigues us most. This year is no different. For this year’s London Design Festival, Cocksedge teamed up with high-end interior company White & White and engineering / design company Arup to create an undulating, rolling hills style sculpture that serves as both functional bench and shelter while still looking whimsical and not disrupting the space. “This piece was an instinctive response to the space and the rhythm of people through it, based on early sketches by hand,” says Paul Cocksedge. “It solves the practical problem of creating an artwork that fills a public square and engages passersby, without obstructing the space.” “Please Be Seated” was made with over 1,100 reclaimed scaffolding boards and pieces of steel recycled from construction sites and is on display in Broadgate until October 11th.
