Mercedes-Benz is celebrating half a million G-Wagen’s built, and it’s done so by building a retro version based on the classic 1986 280 GE. This singular vehicle shows off the Gelandewagen’s unmistakable boxy shape without so much of the cladding and festooning you see on current versions. The paint is Agave Green, one of the model’s first colors, and it looks great here with the contrasting black grille, bumper, roof rack, and trim bits. Amber turn signals, silver five-spoke wheels, and that classic tri-star emblem round out the set. There’s no word on the interior appointments or what’s under the hood. It’s one we’d take over any modern version because it’s a flawless throwback to when the G-Wagen was less of a status symbol and more of an SUV with military roots.
