We Melted All Our Halloween Candy Together to Make the Ultimate Candy Bar

Ask 10 people what the best Halloween candy is and you’ll get 10 different answers. It’s a topic most are fairly passionate about. (The correct answer is Take 5, by the way.) It would seem, then, that there’s simply no way to make every party guest or trick-or-treater happy on Halloween.

Or is there?

We came up with an idea. We took our bowl of Halloween candy, melted it together, and formed one candy bar with all the others inside of it. You love Reese’s? In there. Crave Snickers? You got it. Milk Duds? It’s Dudded up. It might be the greatest candy bar ever made. Want to make your own? Awesome, because it’s crazy easy.

What You’ll Need

  • Assorted Halloween candy
  • Double boiler (or a pot and a bowl that can sit on top)
  • Parchment paper
  • Course sea salt

Step 1: Sort Your Candy

Your Frankenstein candy bar can have any candy you want in it. For our bar, however, we wanted to keep our teeth intact, so we removed things like Jolly Ranchers and Tootsie Pops. Got good dental? Go nuts.

Step 2: Get the Double Boiler Going and Fill

You don’t need to buy a double boiler to make this work. Simply find a pot and a bowl that can sit on top of it without falling in. Fill the pot a quarter of the way with water and bring it to a boil. Once your water boils, bring it down to a gentle simmer. At the same time, fill the bowl with all the candy you want to melt (sans wrappers, obviously).

Step 3: Melt Candy

Place the bowl over the water and stir constantly. The candy will start to melt into a giant, delicious glob. Continue to stir as it melts together. If the chocolate mixture gets too tough to work with, feel free to add a splash of milk.

null

Step 4: Pour and Form

Pour the candy mixture onto the parchment paper and form it into one large rectangle.

null

Step 5: Freeze

Pop the parchment paper and candy slab into the freezer for about 10 minutes.

null

Step 6: Thaw and Cut

When 10 minutes is up, remove the candy from the freezer and cut into bars. Allow bars to come to room temperature.

Step 7: Salt and Eat

Once the bars are no longer cold, sprinkle a little bit of salt on each to help the flavors pop (there are a lot of flavors). Then eat your glorious concoction and never worry about the best Halloween candy ever again.
