In a world of GPS, smartphones and satellites, lighthouses are about as necessary as pocket notebooks, but there’s something to be said for their charm and past significance. Now’s your chance to own one of six historic lighthouses that the U.S. General Services Administration is auctioning off for what many would consider a steal. The six properties up for auction are the Minneapolis Shoal Lighthouse, Criaghill Channel Lower Range Front Light Station, Lansing Shoal Lighthouse, Fourteen Foot Shoal Lighthouse, Poe Reef Lighthouse, and Detroit River Lighthouse. Bidding for each of the properties starts between ten and fifteen grand, but there are some government stipulations for each of the auctions. In addition to the government retaining ownership of the land under and around the property, each of the fairy tale locations needs to be restored, modernized and brought up to code in order for civilians to visit. Even with all those regulations and requirements they’re still great canvases to start your next building transformation project.
