When it comes to Mid-Century Modern design, only a few names are as lauded as Charles and Ray Eames. It doesn’t matter if you’re talking about the best office chairs, storage units or coat hooks, Eames is the name to beat. Vitra, a firm that has quite a few iconic products in its portfolio as well, has teamed up with Eames Office to produce the compact Eames Radio. This desktop radio was originally designed in 1946 but was one of the few radio designs that never actually went into production, because the manufacturer wanted a more “normal design.” That was obviously a huge mistake. So Vitra and the Eames Office worked with British manufacturer REVO to create a version of the original Eames design with modern technology. As with all things Eames, this kind of quality comes with a hefty price tag. Seeing as how it’s one of the most gorgeous radios we’ve ever seen, it’s worth it.
