There are few pieces of furniture in the world that are more iconic than the Eames Lounge Chair that Charles and Ray Eames designed for Herman Miller over fifty years ago. If there are any pieces more iconic, they’re probably also Eames designs for Herman Miller, so that should give you some indication to the quality of this chair. 3sixteen hasn’t been around as long as the original chair, but that hasn’t stopped the company from making waves with awesome products and collaborations. This is why it makes perfect sense for 3sixteen to team up with Herman Miller for a one-of-a-kind run of custom Eames Lounge Chairs. Eames expressed a desire for the chair to resemble “a well-used first baseman’s mitt,” which this chair and ottoman combo achieve perfectly thanks to the natural vegetable-tanned leather upholstery. For the shell, 3sixteen chose hand-oiled Santos Palisander veneers because it’s the closest sustainable match to the Brazilian rosewoods used on the originals. Unfortunately, only three sets were made, and they’re not currently for sale.
