Those who saw Logan this past weekend were ready for a hard R take on Hugh Jackman’s career defining character, with adamantium-enabled dismemberment and Patrick Stewart’s dignified vulgarity. What they weren’t expecting was an appearance by the merc-with-a-mouth, as any hopes of a Wolverine/Deadpool team-up are strictly relegated to paper. And to be sure, this wasn’t a team-up, as Deadpool’s quick teaser came at the beginning with all the other trailers, but that doesn’t make it any less exciting. Barring a possible Logan upset, Deadpool is the highest grossing R-rated movie ever made and Logan‘s unflinching violence can be directly attributed to the success Ryan Reynolds found in a knockoff Spider-man costume. If Deadpool didn’t exist, it’s a guarantee that Logan would have been just another anti-septic PG-13 Wolverine story. Instead, it’s the excellent sendoff the longest running comic book movie character deserves. So we think Logan can spare a few minutes for some Wade Wilson quipping.
